News Year Eve!

Woohoo! What a FUN time to think about the upcoming year. I have some New Years Resolutions, but I'm going to post those tomorrow. Tonight is just about the fun of 2008.

Overall, it was a good year for the Norris Family. A little rough here at the end with the

economy and world being so crazy but I'm glad for the most part we've made good decisions

and are making it through. I've had SUCH fun this year scrapping with my "Paper Doll" girlfriends on SCS Goal Challenge Thread! I can't believe I actually finished 366 pages! Woohoo. Today though, it was all about cards. I even tried a Technique Challenge.

Concert Band

I love looking at this page! First of all, it's very recent and it was JT's first Concert Band performance. He looked SO cute in a bow tie! The page idea came to me actually during the concert. Although you can't see it in the pictures, they had decorations like the ones I have added hanging from the ceiling. I also enjoy looking at this layout because I started using my 2009 goals to use my stash (I've had paper over a year!) and to use stamps or my cricut on my pages. I was pleased with the stamped embellishments and title! Supplies: Paper: SU! Holiday Thyme, Purely Pomegranate CS, Groovy Guava CS, River Rock CS Ink: SU! 4-3-2-1 --- FIRE!

This layout is for one of the VSBN Challenges on SCS this weekend -- use numbers. I rarely use numbers to show sequence of photos but like how it turned out. Ahhh, this page makes me want to be on vacation! JT and I had such a TERRIFIC time up at Mackinaw Island! These pages are us at the Fort watching a Cannon Demonstration. Very fun! Challenge Me!

This is for the VSBN Challenge on Splitcoast. Every Friday for the last month, we've been having scrap challenges. Last Friday's was to post a layout with the word "home" in the title. I couldn't find pictures or an idea until Monday. As soon as I took the picture of JT, I KNEW this was the photo I was going to use for this challenge. It's always good when it "clicks", kwim?! Let's Party!

"Spring is Nature's Way of saying, Let's Party"! When I saw this quote in a book, I just knew it was perfect for these pictures! We had such a FUN walk in the park that day. It's a beautiful place we discovered when we were looking for walking trails. I really like how these pages turned out, it was an idea from "Canadian Scrapbooker" Summer 2007 ed. On pg 2, I added a pocket which includes some additional pictures and the park map. Scrapbook Supplies: All Paper and Ink - SU! Letter Stamps CTMH.

Text Me Babe!

It seems like now days the only way I get to talk to my oldest son is through "texting" him. He's so busy being 17 that he's hardly ever home between school, work and friends. I'm not sure what he would do without his cell phone, laugh! He doesn't ever remember a time when we didn't have one. He got one early because he was away from home often with is Gymnastics. He's always up-to-date on his social calendar and has time for quick "Hello's" to his Mama! This was for Serendipity Scrapbook Sketch-a-pa-looza Challenge! Scrapbook Supplies: Paper - SU! Sometimes

Sometimes our kitty (a.k.a "BK") and our dog, Meme get along and play well together while they're outside. Other times...they live up to the saying "Fight like cats and dogs"...LOL! While out taking pictures I captured some candid moments of them playing around. We love to watch out the window at their antics. The layout is from my friend Sally's blog - Imagine & Inspire. I usually use her SCS sketches but found this "extra" one on her blog and decided it was perfect for these picts. Scrapbook Supplies: Paper - CM Shades of Green, SU! Old Olive, Basic Black. I just love this page! It's so perfect for my youngest DS Birthday! He & his buddies had such a good time on his birthday. At 14, crazy things are funny. Back To School

This layout is my youngest Son on his first day of school 2008. He's a Freshman in High School now, wow! Since he's been attending Band Camp since mid July, he knows lots of kids at the school already so he feels better about going this year, after all, he's been the "new kid" the last 2 years in a row! He looks so CUTE in his wonderful orange shirt...his favorite color of course!

I got this layout from from a Scrap Sketch website but I was hopping around and can't find it again. I'll update when I do! I also added arrows for the Totally Random Challenge #16. I ended up putting the journaling in the arrows. This page still feels alittle incomplete to me but for now, I'm leaving it as is.

Drive In

These pages were inspired from Inspiration sent to my by my friend Kirstin in our SCS Inspiration (magazine) swap. For the next couple months, we decided it would be fun to share magazines with each other so that's what we're doing. This is from "Canadian Scrapper" Summer Ed. 2007. Very neat book! There are lots more pages I want to scraplift. I wanted to use a few more buttons on the page for the Scrapping Out LOUD! Challenge #6 -- Use Buttons. I always like them on layouts but I'm definitely "button challenged". I did manage to work a few onto my page.
These pages are picts of me and JT on our way to his first time at the Drive In movie. He saw one coming back from Michigan on the turnpike and wanted to check it out. We found out that there is one about 10 miles from our house so on the night the new Will Smith movie "Hancock" came out, we headed over there. We had SO much fun stopping at the store to pick out munchies, we really stocked up, LOL! JT had fun but realized it's easier to be distracted at the drive in and he wouldn't want to see all movies there. Fun movie & fun time. My Meme

Ever had a moment when your dog was your most favorite family member? LOL! The men in my life are stressing me this week. I love my teen age sons but I sometimes I just want to go back when they were 8 or 10...life was so much simpler then, their schedule was my schedule. My Meme dog I've had for 10 years. She's always glad to see me. She was sitting in the chair with me as I worked on this layout! This is her with her favorite toy. This is a layout idea is from the BHG SketchPages Magazine! Very fun! Fish Story!

This page is for the challenge #9 at Scrapping Out Loud. I love multi-picture pages as you can see by my past posts so this wasn't too challenging for me. What was FUN was that this page completes my youngest son's 2005 Scrapbook! Woohoo!!

The photos on this page bring smiles to me as I know FISHING is one of JT's favorite past times, especially with Papa and cousins. I was so happy they took pictures.

Back Row...

Yup, my youngest son plays percussion in the band & he was in the BACK ROW for this concert. None of the pictures were the "greatest" but I thought this layout idea worked. I even added a pocket for the program.
I'm so proud of him for playing in percussion in the band. I can't wait to see him in the marching band next year. None of the rest of us are "musically inclined" so it's good JT is exploring his interests!

Proud to be an American!

Wow! I can't believe it's been over 4 months since I've last posted to my BLOG! I've REALLY got to do a better job of keeping up with this. Today I'm posting a layout theme idea I got from a scrappin' blog I like to visit: Totally Random. Jenn has lots of fun challenges! This was for Challenge #4 - Use Song Lyrics. I wrote the idea down and just got to it when I was playing SCS VSBN. The song I added was by Lee Greenwood "Proud to be an American". Family

I think being a Scrapbooker has made me appreciate "Family Moments" better. Not only am I glad for all of the photo opportunities but just being together making memories. I realize as my sons get older that those times are fleeting and I cherish all of the ones I get at this point.

This layout brought tears to my eyes for that very reason. As I look at the picture I realize both my sons are taller than me. When did that happen? LOL! It's a physical reminder to me they are growing up and getting closer to moving on with their own lives. We had a GREAT time at Christmas. I'm so thankful my layout depicts how pleasant this time was for us! Scrapbook Supplies: Paper: SU! Dashing DSP, Stamps: SU! Big Deal Alpha, Ink: SU! Trust

The "word" for this week from One Little Word Challenge is "Trust". I was looking through my box of pictures trying to figure out what I wanted to use for the 1st page in DS 2004 Book (the last page to complete the album!) and I ran across this photo. I don't know why it struck me to put these two together but when I saw it, I knew for me this was a "trust" issue. That Christmas both boys got Dell DJ's and their "music" world opened up because all of a sudden they could find songs they liked and download them to their MP3's. It was a strange feeling for me to think they had access to all sorts of music and lyrics I didn't even know existed. There were many times I flipped through their DJ's just checking out the songs and listening to any I wondered about. For the most part, all of them were ok but I knew that I had to keep talking to them about what they were listening to and what effect it could have on them. It's not often these days you don't see them with IPod earbuds out of their ears as they both are enjoying them. I'm so glad we talked about TRUST and the songs they listen to because we're still doing good on what they download.

I used scraps to complete this page and got the layout idea from a great book "Doodling for Papercrafters" by Maelynn Cheung. It's one of my favorite books right now! Scrapbook Supplies: Paper - SU! Life

This is for the Pencil Lines #72 Sketch Challenge.
Today we sang a song in church, "I Stand In Awe". The chorus goes something like, "I stand, I stand in awe of you. I stand, I stand in awe of you. Holy God to whom all praise is due, I stand in awe of you." When I pulled in the driveway coming home, I sat there thinking of how AMAZING all the steps our life has taken to get us where we are today. We all truly believe God led us here and there is no doubt He is blessing us immensely. When I look at my sons and the opportunities and school life they are having, I am thankful for God's love and His direction. I especially see His Love and direction taking place in Brandon's life right now. He's growing up and experiencing lots of changes. One of the biggest life changes for him is his exploration and discovery of life outside gymnastics. It's been a really rough year (with injuries) . Although I've always told him that "Gymnastics is WHAT you do, not WHO you are" I think he had to experience that himself to understand. Fortunately, he has great Coaches who have been there with him every step of the way and been so understanding. God is Good! I stand in awe! More Memories

I just wanted to get my page for the Pencil Lines Sketch Challenge #71 posted tonight since tomorrow is Sunday and they'll have a new sketch challenge to enjoy. Rejoice!

I had a conversation with my oldest son the other day about not taking what I tell him out of context. If you have children or been the boss and had employees, you know how frustrating and crazy that can make you. Fast forward to today. I'm grumbling away while I'm cleaning the house, increasing the complaints when I get to the bathroom. Suddenly, a verse pops into my head, "This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." (Psalm 118:24) "yea, ok, except when you're cleaning the bathroom". Well, and then there's also the Saturday mornings the alarm clock goes off at 0600 because Brandon has to go the gym and the nights I have to rush home only to find everyone is hungry and no one has started anything for dinner, and the list went on....It was then it hit me that I like my sons was adding *asterisks*, exceptions to what my Father has said! He didn't say that on day's you feel like it, when you're not busy or on days you don't have to clean....Laugh! No! He said "rejoice". How easy it is to grumble. Psalm 68:3, "...May the righteous be glad and rejoice before God; may they be happy and joyful." So it seemed alittle strange but I turned up the Praise music and finished the housework. You know, it really wasn't as bad that way :)

Finishing the house stuff early gave me time to get another scrappin' page done today! There was a GREAT Challenge on SCS yesterday on the Scrapbook Diva Challenge #14, use stamps for the border and use more than 5 stamps. I hid the journaling. This picture is very special to me because we were leaving Florida and it was just the 5 of us out to dinner one last time before we left. We had a great time just chatting and reminiscing about our vacation and other fun family moments. Very Fun Challenge! Easy to "Rejoice", LOL! Gifts

Today I was in the airport waiting for the Ground Transportation Driver and I was sitting by the guy who shines shoes. He's a VERY pleasant gentleman, always very chatty. He didn't have a customer at the time so he asked me if I needed my shoes shined. I told him "no" they were already ruined by the salt and no amount of "shining" was probably going to help. He agreed that salt was hard on shoes & told me that in weather like this (5 inches of snow) I really should wear boots! He did go on to show me his shoes and I have to admit they were beautiful. Not fancy, handmade leather beautiful but regular shoes shined up VERY nicely. You would have never been able to tell he walked through salt/snow with them! I told him they looked great and he than began to explain to me how he keeps them so nice. He told me, "The Lord gave me the Gift for Shoes." I must have given him a quizzical look because he went on to explain, "God gives everyone a special gift. That ONE thing they do better than anyone else. Might be small, might be big, others may have the same gift, but they don't/won't use it the same way so everyone's special gift is their own." His, he explained was "the gift of shoes. No one can make regular guy shoes look quite as nice, it's my gift." He went on to tell me that he's a Reverend at a little church on Sunday's and Wednesday's but during the week, he shares his "gift for shoes" at the airport. As he was packing up to leave (the weather was too bad for more flights to come in) he asked me, "So, what is your special gift?" He caught me by complete surprise and since I didn't have an answer, I said the only thing I could think, " well, we both can tell it's not shoes." He laughed and said, "oh no, that's mine. You need to discover your own." So all day I've been thinking about what I would consider "my own special gift". What's Yours?

My son Brandon has the gift of being able to get along with anyone and everyone. He's a great mediator and he's one of those people that others just like instantly. He always has lots of friends and acquaintances and seems to always be smiling and positive. He's so adorable, but then I'm prejudiced! Scrapbook Supplies: Paper: Elsie Papers, Stamps: SU! More Vacation Memories

Ok, it may just be where I'm at in the book OR it could be that the gray, cold days have me thinking of HOT Summer Days. Whatever it is, I just finished Another vacation l/o of us at the beach! I took me awhile as it was one of those l/o I fiddled with, still didn't like but finally just gave up and stuck it down. The picture l/o wasn't exactly what I had in mind when I started...I actually started with a Sketch By Suzy #43. Somehow I lost the plan on page 2. I still like the colors and the photo's make me smile as it was such a FUN day spent out playing in the sand. Trendy

This was for another Scrappin' 2008 Challenge - Trends. Scrap a page showing something that's trendy for you or your children right now. I was planning to do this page anyway but it sure was perfect time to get it done. I got the boys Ipods for Christmas because it was the first item listed on their Christmas lists. It seems every time I see one of them now, they have little white ear buds in and I have to repeat myself at least twice before they hear me, laugh! What a trend. I laugh to think about all the trends we've gone through at Christmas time - Barney, Power Rangers, Light up tennis shoes, Spiderman, Yugio (sp?) cards, Toy Story (Buzz Lightyear)...oh my! Well, as they grow up, those trends change but someday it will be fun to look back at this page and laugh about the Ipod trend. I have to say, I just may have to get one as there are several podcasts I'd like to listen to...LOL! The top "Ipod" has a transparency over it and I stamped over it. Looks neat IRL. It's ME!

Yup, can you believe it?! A WHOLE page of pictures of me! It was for a SCS Scrapbook Challenge we did! Make sure your l/o has at least one picture of yourself. I decided to make the whole l/o about me since (1) I had the pictures and (2) it fit since I was doing January pages and it's my birthday!! I have more pictures of me because recently I've learned to use the timer on my camera. It's so much fun to make sure I get in at least 1 or 2 of the photos since as I look back through the boys books, I'm not in there a whole lot. Woohoo! A whole page....I think that someday, this will be a fun page to see , a better glimpse of who was doing all the photo's and scrapping! FALL Favorites!

These pictures were so fun to scrap! The 2 on the right were picts I took for the "Photo-A-Day" Challenge I'm in and enjoying immensely! Taking a photo-a-day really opens up your eyes to the world around you. It makes me aware of what I enjoy. My Fall "theme" was color. I love all the colors we have in the Fall. That's me in the Sepia picture, we're out selecting pumpkins. This page was actually for the SCS Challenge (SBDD09) for hidden journaling. This page was for my oldest son's scrapbook and the "hidden journaling" reads, "I guess when you turn "16" Halloween isn't as much fun anymore. You skipped the fun of carving pumpkins with us this year. I missed you!" I also put this page in his book because I realize looking back, you wouldn't be able to tell he had a Mother, LOL! I'm always behind the camera and rarely in the pictures so I'm trying hard to do better about including myself int heir scrapbooks. You can see that I've also joined the "doodle craze". I love to add freehand to my layouts lately. Supplies: SU! Fall Flowers DSP, SU! Close to Cocoa & Old Olive c/s, Deja Views & PiggyTales Rub Ons, CM Leaf Punch

Mom Moments

I love being a Mom. My sons are so Inspiring, Fun, Wonderful guys...but of course they're teenagers and if I said any of that to them they would probably (a.) Look at me funny and walk away (b.) Ignore me and ask "what's for dinner?" (c.) Tell me I'm having a "Mom Moment - snap out of it" or (d.) All of the Above. As you know, sometimes being a Mom is painful. Watching your children go through the ups and downs of life is hard. I read somewhere that it's better for them to experience disappointment when they are younger and you're there to hold their hand through it and help them learn to cope than have to experience it for the first time when they are a young adult out on their own. I can only hope that's true. I can't imagine ever not being there to "hold their hand" but I guess that day will come. Right now, I've got it tightly, refusing to let go. My layout today is inspired by such a moment. This layout is from another Pencil Lines Sketch #65. I scraplifted Ania's version of this as it was just perfect for the picture I wanted to include in my son's book. I've done alot better recently of scrapping life versus just events. Here's one of those "life" pages. Paper: Misc Scraps , Stamps: CTMH Legendary Moments, Ink: SU! Green Galore, Basic Black, Basic gray, Embellishment: Imagination Project Coasters

Scrapping Challenge

This year one of my 2008 Goals was to do more Scrapbook Pages. In addition, I wanted to do more challenges. I think Challenges help stretch my creativity, ideas and give variety to my books. Tonight I had time to complete the Pencil Lines #67 Sketch. I liked how it turned out! I'm in the SCS 2008 Scrapbook Challenge and one of the Gals mentioned how certain pictures you hold onto to scrap because ... of the memory. Well, these are some of those pictures for me. We had SUCH a perfect VACATION that I wanted the Layouts to be PERFECT so I've been saving the pictures thinking I would come up with just the right layouts. I got them out tonight and did the first page with this sketch! More pages coming.... Paper: CM Shades of Aqua, Shades of Blue , Stamps: Autumn Leaves Swirls, DMD

I'm the GUEST Hostess

This week for the Scrapbook Theme Challenge on SCS! Yea! It was fun to help out. I had lots of ideas I've been considering working up to today but had an *inspiration* yesterday while putting away all my Christmas Decorations. We always get so many beautiful, fun and happy Christmas cards and there are some I just hate to throw away. Usually I save those and put them in a box. This year (& my challenge was) to use favorites on your scrapping pages. That's just what I did! I love how it turned out. This is my youngest son out in the snow...he loves it. I added the Christmas Card he got from my Mom. Just perfect for him :)

Thursday...

I love Thursdays! I've usually had 3 good days of work in not to mention it's close enough to Friday & the weekend to be excited. Thursday nights are usually a great time for me to get stampin' or scrappin' done also ... more to look forward to. Today I have a busy day planned. Just wanted to share a recent layout I completed. This is my youngest son, I love him! He's so quirky. The journaling is all about how he got his name. At 13 that doesn't seem important but some day, it will be fun to remember.
